Ouch.
Seeing the UI in action across several tasks, not just in a highly controlled presentation, shows how awkward and unsophisticated it is — I had the same feeling you get when you got a movie based on a great trailer, only to discover that all the good stuff was in the trailer and the rest of the movie was a mess.
Lightroom 3 is out, and I’m really surprised at the feature list. Mostly I’m surprised at what’s not there: soft proofing. It’s been a glaring omission and it’s unforgivable that its still missing in the third major incarnation of the software.
I mean, I get that they want people to double dip and buy every Photoshop release too, but I want to do my corrections and printing without leaving Lightroom. Guys, I’m going to buy Photoshop anyway. Can I please just not have to launch it when I don’t need to, other than to see WTF is going to come out of my printer?
It’s maddening enough that I even considered skipping the upgrade for the first time in the program’s history. I decided that I’ll hold my nose and upgrade anyway; $99 is cheap enough that I’ll bite.
I can’t believe that fucking video support made it into a photo application before soft proofing though. I’ll use a video program to work with my video, thanks!

File this under “likely to fail horribly”. What a terrible, terrible idea.
Bad first: I rarely ever watch football and I don't really follow or call myself a fan of any given team. But today, feeling under the weather, I settled in and watched the New Orleans Saints play the Washington Redskins. It was a thoroughly entertaining game, the likes of which I haven't seen in years. And then, as the Saints appeared to possibly make a comeback with less than two minutes remaining on the clock, FOX decided to cut from that game to the 49ers/Seahawks. Unbelievable. I found out later that the Saints did make the comeback, and it must have been something pretty incredible to watch. Sadly, I was watching a pathetic opening to another game that I couldn't care less about. So lame.
Now the good: I've only been to one real college football game: a Nebraska Huskers game while visiting my wife's home in Nebraska. It was a lot of fun. We just bought tickets to the bowl game they're playing on the 30th and then spending New Year's Eve down in SoCal. Should be a lot of fun.
